Sports clubs at UIC provide an opportunity for students to get involved and explore their athletic interests. John Manning, Assistant Director of Program & Services, mentions the impressive participation, with over 1,500 active members across all 29 clubs in 2023-2024. The success of the program over the past two years has generated seven new student-led sports clubs—Climbing, Karate, Golf, Tang Soo Do, Social Gaming, Sabor Latino, and Equestrian. Campus Recreation plays a supportive role by promoting, advising, and aiding in club logistics. Read on to learn about three of the seven new sports clubs at UIC.

Climbing Club
The Climbing Club strives to connect students through climbing and push their limits to reach their potential and personal goals. Everyone is welcome, and the club is looking forward to an exciting first semester. As President Claire Dombrowski highlights, the club fosters a supportive environment for new and seasoned climbers. Students can take part in the Climbing Club recreationally or competitively. In addition to climbing competitions, members have access to discounted climbs at local gyms and can experience being part of a community with shared interests. While most members participate recreationally, Claire mentions planning future competitions with other local college climbing clubs. Learn more

Sabor Latino Dance Club
Sabor Latino Dance Club is an inclusive dance club that fosters confidence, nurtures creativity, and builds a sense of community. Members can look forward to learning Latin dance, such as Salsa and Bachata. President Samatha Bravo hopes to share their passion and knowledge of these dances with the UIC community, highlighting that the dances are filled with movement and emotion. The club accepts any level of experience. As members of Sabor Latino Dance, students can perform at various events, such as the College of Public Health’s International Night. One of Samantha’s favorite activities was when the club gave their first performance at the School of Medicine during Hispanic Heritage Month, hosted by the Mujeres in Medicina club last year. Golf Club
On Thursdays and Fridays at the Student Recreation Facility, the Golf Club holds beginner-friendly practice sessions, providing a supportive environment for new players to learn golf. The new club organizes professional networking events, offering students the chance to connect with industry professionals and explore potential internships. President Tuong (Max) Le emphasizes the club’s commitment to fostering a welcoming community where students can enjoy affordable golfing opportunities, both recreational and competitive.

A memorable event for Secretary Rachel Zhu was the club’s first 9-hole golf course event at Billy Caldwell Golf Course, with a great turnout and a fun mini-competition. Rachel mentions that students can look forward to enjoying golf with other students and build a “traditionally useful” skill in connecting with professionals. In addition to golfing events, the club also hosts practices at driving ranges and indoor simulators, making golf accessible to all. Learn more
