Sports Clubs: Community and Personal Growth

Tang Soo Do

The UIC Recreation and Wellbeing Sports Club Program offers students a unique opportunity to grow in a way that goes beyond intramural or recreational activities. While intramurals provide a fun, on-campus experience, sports clubs offer structured practices and the chance to compete against teams from other universities. Some clubs participate in regional and national tournaments. What truly sets these clubs apart is their commitment to inclusivity. According to John Manning, Assistant Director of Program & Services, Recreation and Wellbeing ensures that all sports clubs are welcoming to students from all backgrounds by providing officer training, establishing clear non-discrimination policies, and encouraging open participation. Through these efforts, UIC sports clubs create a space where students can both build community and develop transferable skills like leadership and teamwork.
