What Are You Doing This Summer?

Buckingham Fountain in Millennium Park

The school year is over, and summer is quickly approaching! With almost three months of summertime fun, there are plenty of activities to keep oneself busy. But, with so many activities to do, it is hard to pick from all of them! Here are some activities to do in the Chicagoland area this summer.

1. Ice Cream

With the heat glaring at your face and sweat running down your neck, a good cold ice cream is the remedy to beating the scorching summer. Some of my favorite places to get ice cream are Rainbow Cone, Plush Horse, and Andy’s Frozen Custard.

2. Music Festivals/Concerts

Do you enjoy music as much as we do? Chicago is a wonderful place to attend concerts and festivals! From large scale festivals like Lollapalooza to small scale shows at Millennium Park, there is always something for every type of listener.

3. Visit museums/free events

Chicago has so many museums that there is even a space called the Museum Campus located downtown. With museums that range from natural history to art to astronomy, there is probably a museum for every interest. Another reward for the museums is the free admission days. Now while not all museums offer free admission days, it is nice to take advantage of the free days to explore and learn about the exhibits the museums have. You never know, you might learn something new and become interested in another thing.

Our top 5 museums to visit:

Adler Planetarium

Shedd Aquarium

Field Museum of Natural History

Art Institute of Chicago

Chicago Museum Of Contemporary Art

4. Spend a day at the beach

Who doesn’t like spending some time by the beach in the summer? Whether it's just to sunbathe, play beach volleyball with friends or go swimming with family, the beach is a great place to get your vitamin C and get that summer tan.

A few beaches to visit:

North Ave Beach

Oak Street Beach

Montrose Beach

5. Fireworks at Navy Pier

Looking for an evening activity? The Pier offers fireworks viewing at least once a week throughout the summer! Viewing a colorful sky every week is always so fun to see and even if you are not a fan of fireworks, Navy Pier offers so many more activities. From boat rides to riding the Ferris Wheel, there is always something to do at Navy Pier.
